1) About Us

Welcome families to The Coach Sarna League 49ers Flag Football League!

We are a 501(c)(3) family-oriented recreation league and are dedicated to bringing families together, strengthening relationships, and building new ones, all-the-while teaching players football fundamentals and opening up a safe and competitive environment to play non-contact flag football.

Our mission is that any child who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances.

At the 2022 NFL Flag Summit in New Orleans, LA, our league was nominated by NFL Flag as one of the top new leagues in the nation out of approximately 700 other leagues. Again, at the 2023 NFL Flag Summit in Atlanta, GA, we were nominated for League of the Year as well as the Community-Based League of the Year. Ryan Sarna, the CEO and Founder of The Coach Sarna League was also invited as a guest speaker for two different segments at the 2023 Annual NFL Flag Conference in Atlanta, GA.

We are open to the public, so anyone can register for any or all of our leagues regardless of where they live (7v7 in Fairfield on Saturdays, 5v5 in Vallejo/Benicia or Napa on Sundays). We have families from all over Solano County, Napa County, and Contra Costa County, and as far away as Sacramento, San Jose, and the central valley.

Being a community-based league, we stress team bonding events, attendance of our community events, and volunteerism amongst our families.

2. 7v7 Flag Football

Experience high-energy, non-contact football played in the HS and college formats. The game is played on a field approximately 35-40 yards wide and 60 yards long, designed to maximize strategic play and excitement.
Each game features two 15-minute halves with a 3-minute halftime. Teams are allotted two timeouts per game. All seven offensive players, including the center, are eligible to run routes, ensuring versatile and dynamic gameplay.

Gameplay highlights include:

  • Two teams of seven players each
  • Starting each possession at the 5-yard line
  • No tackling, diving, or blocking—players pull flags to stop plays
  • Set number of plays (usually three or four) to advance past midfield and score
  • Scoring: 6 points for touchdowns, 2 points for safeties
  • Extra points from the 5-yard line (1 point) or the 10-yard line (2 points) after a touchdown

Join us for an exciting, fast-paced, and safe sport designed for fun, skill development, and competition!

4) Quick Points on changes from previous season including team-based volunteering and bracket play

Team-based volunteering

We are a volunteer-based organization. Therefore, every team will be scheduled for volunteer tasks throughout the season. This may include set-up, tear-down, trash pick-up etc. IF a family does not wish to volunteer with their team, they may waive their need to volunteer with a non-volunteer fee of $40. Your name will be marked on the roster as having paid the non-volunteer fee and will not be asked to volunteer with your team.

Two leagues per location

Each location (Fairfield, Napa, Vallejo/Benicia) will have a Females-in-Flag All-Girls League and an All-Boys League. These are separate registration pages.

Roster Requests

We recommend whole rosters come in as much as possible to increase continuity for teams playing together each season. Coaches can email their roster from a previous season and request all the families stay together. Families can also request rosters through the registration process.

Bracket play in-season

This season, we are going to separate teams by skill-level as much as possible into A-Brackets, B-Brackets, and C-Brackets. Teams with a high amount of skill and experience will be placed in the A-Bracket and play each other. The next 4-6 teams with lower skill and experience-level will be in the B-Bracket and the C-Bracket. If a team struggles after two weeks in one bracket, they will be placed in a lower bracket. Also, if a team is dominating a lower bracket, they will be placed in a higher bracket. This is to keep all teams competitive as much as possible and eliminate recurring lopsided games.

5) Raffle Fundraiser for ALL Players

In order to stay a low-cost league, we require all players to participate in a fundraiser. This season, rather than popcorn or cookie dough, all players will be given 10 Raffle Tickets to sell at $10 each.

The Raffle drawing will take place on Friday, November 21st before the championship weekend.

1st ticket drawing will receive $10,000
2nd ticket drawing will receive $5,000
3rd ticket drawing will receive $2,500

Players may sell more than 10 raffle tickets and thus qualify for our Disneyland vacation given to the top three selling families as follows:

Top selling Family: THREE 2-Day Disneyland Passes
2nd Place Family: TWO 2-Day Passes
1st Place Family: ONE 2-Day Pass

Families who do not wish to sell raffle tickets may purchase their own tickets or pay the equivalent in opt-out fees to the league.

6) Coaching

"A coach will impact more people in one year than the average person will in a lifetime," Billy Graham

Our amazing volunteer coaches are the backbone of The Coach Sarna League. We may have 2,000 kids who want to play, but we need the coaches in order to form the teams and participate.

Coaches are needed to come and make a lifelong impact on the lives of our players and families. We encourage anyone interested in being a volunteer coach to sign-up and choose to be a leader this season!

This season, we will once again be teaming up with Firstdown Playbook where coaches can download pre-made plays with coaching points to use for the season.

The Coach Sarna League also has a pre-set 8-week practice plan for your team(s) to use, or you can make your own practices. We also hold an in-person coach clinic to ensure every coach is in a place to succeed.

We are going to do everything in our power to have the best training for coaches so that everyone, whether you are a first-time coach who is new to football or have coached football for decades will learn and grow under our program. If you or anyone you know are willing to be trained as a head coach or assistant coach, please call/text Coach Ryan Sarna immediately at 707-316-3029.

NOTE: It is important to remember that we are a volunteer-based league, and we rely on families and friends for coaching. In the event that we have more teams than coaches, some teams will be dissolved in order to maintain the integrity of our league. A full refund will be awarded to families in the case of dissolving a team from not having a coach.

7) Scholarships

It is the mission of our league that every kid who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances

If your family qualifies as low-income, our partnership with NFL Flag offers a scholarship for your family by filling out the NFL Flag Individual Participant Grant Form HERE. Once the NFL Flag approves your request they will notify you via email.

A full scholarship covers the registration fee, jersey top, and shorts. It does not cover a non-volunteer fee if you chose not to volunteer in some manner. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis as well as need (i.e. if we needed more 6th grade girls then the first 6th grade girl on the waitlist would have preference) and only head coaches and LEVI's Stadium volunteers are guaranteed a scholarship.

Easiest ways to earn a scholarship:

1) Anyone who is willing to become a head coach (HC) can ask for our Head Coach Scholarship that will pay for the registration in full. This includes any of your friends or family that you recommend becoming a head coach on behalf of your child's team. This is because some people may not be able to coach, but know someone who would such as an uncle, auntie, friend etc.

2) Become an Assistant Coach (AC) for a team and you will receive a half-scholarship. Just as the head coach position, if anyone from your reference becomes an assistant coach for your child's team then you can claim that AC Half-Scholarship.

3) Volunteer for a LEVI's Stadium event (one time per scholarship).

Our Commitment:
The Coach Sarna League is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (87-3783328). It is our promise that every child who wants to play ball will play regardless of financial resources. If there is a hardship and you need a scholarship, please contact the league prior to paying for registration.

8) 2025 Spring Season Schedule:

Practice times, days, and locations are determined by the coach and families of each team based on what works best for the team. Every team must have at least one practice per week. No team is allowed to have more than two practices per week.
