Coach Ed Sarna
The namesake of

Coach Ed Sarna was a prominent, and respected high school football coach, teacher, and athletic director at Hogan High School in Vallejo for several decades.
His dedication to his students, athletes, and family, as well as his unwavering commitment to the community of Vallejo were some of the trademark characteristics that made Coach Sarna so loved.
Coach Sarna was the youngest of a large family that immigrated to America from Poland. English was his second language during childhood, causing him to face a learning barrier throughout his early education. Even so, Coach Sarna persevered in the classroom, and used his God given athletic ability and love of sports to earn an athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he went on to earn a degree in both English and Physical Education.
Upon his graduation from Notre Dame, Coach Sarna served our country by joining the United States Marine Corps as an officer for nearly 20 years until he retired as a Major.
He moved to Vallejo in 1960 and was swiftly hired to a teaching position with the Vallejo Unified School District. In 1965, Coach Sarna joined the staff at Hogan High School as an English Teacher, and coached football, baseball, track, wrestling, and boxing. In 1974 he became the Hogan's longest tenured Athletic Director until his retirement in 1993.
Throughout his career, Coach Sarna challenged his students and athletes to persevere through hard work and dedication both in and out of the classroom. His reputation of making faith, family and students a priority in his life is what inspired us to name this non-profit organization after him: The Coach Sarna League!
We thank all of you for participating in our vision of sportsmanship, respect, community, faith, and family in all that we do, and know, that the leader of our family, Coach Ed Sarna, would be proud of you all.
Sincerely,
