1) About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) family-oriented recreation league and are dedicated to bringing families together, strengthening relationships, and building new ones, all-the-while teaching players football fundamentals and opening up a safe and competitive environment to play non-contact flag football.

Our mission is that any child who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances.

At the 2022 NFL Flag Summit in New Orleans, LA, our league was nominated by NFL Flag as one of the top new leagues in the nation out of approximately 700 other leagues. Again, at the 2023 NFL Flag Summit in Atlanta, GA, we were nominated for League of the Year as well as the Community-Based League of the Year. Ryan Sarna, the CEO and Founder of The Coach Sarna League was also invited as a guest speaker for two different segments at the 2023 Annual NFL Flag Conference in Atlanta, GA.

We are open to the public, so anyone can register for either or BOTH of our leagues regardless of where they live (7 v 7 in Fairfield on Saturdays and/or 5 v 5 in Vallejo on Sundays). We have families from all over Solano County, Napa County, and Contra Costa County, and as far away as Sacramento and San Francisco.

Our divisions are separated into All-Boys and All-Girls Divisions. Our All-Girls Divisions are currently the largest All-Girls Flag Football Divisions in Northern California with hundreds of participants.

Being a community-based league, we stress team bonding events, attendance of our community events, and volunteerism amongst our families.

2) Quick Points on changes from previous season including volunteer time

Non-volunteer Fee

We are a volunteer-based organization. Therefore, we require every participant to either volunteer OR pay a $40 nonwaivable fee. However, if it is discovered that a parent missed their volunteer day, their family/participants will be prohibited from waiving the volunteer fee in future seasons.

Concessions Stands Volunteer for Fairfield Location (Mi Taquizas Food Vendor Booth)

Season Cost

We will continue to be the most affordable league in the area and offer an early bird special of $99 for the season that will end on February 1st and will include registration fee and jersey top (shorts are mandatory and have to be ordered at checkout). We will Increase the registration fee to $109 once the early bird special ends until registration closes on March 30th.

Download the GroupMe App

Most of our team, coach, and volunteer communications will come through the GroupMe App. This is a free download from your app store and makes communication with your team and coaches easy.
I will be communicating to coaches via GroupMe this season.

Coach/Buddy Requests

We highly recomend coaches, players, and families continue with their same teams from season to season to build upon what was learned. This has led teams from going 0-10 one season to 10-0 the following season. Coaches may send an email with a list of players and their contact their wish to have on their team. Incoming coaches can bring a team with them so long as each player is registered. To have a specific coach or player requested (or not requested), please insert first and last names during your registration questions. Otherwise we will organize teams based on school, grade, gender, and skill-level.

3) Double Good POPCORN FUNDRAISER INFO

In order to keep our fees low and be able to afford referees, we are once again going to rely on our wonderful families and community to fundraise together with the Double Good virtual popcorn fundraiser.

Just like last season, we will have prizes available to the top three sellers as follows:

1st Place family: Disney Gift Card with amount equivalent of Three 3-Day Passes that can be used for Disney passes, hotel, or food/gifts at the park

2nd Place family: Disney Gift Card with amount equivalent of Two 2-Day Passes that can be used for Disney passes, hotel, or food/gifts at the park

3rd Place family: Disney Gift Card with amount equivalent of One 2-Day Pass that can be used for Disney passes, hotel, or food/gifts at the park

Remember, this fundraiser is through the Double Good App and ONLY requires you to share your link with families and friends and coworkers during our 4-day April window. You do not deliver popcorn as it is mailed to the buyer's house AND you do not collect money as the purchaser pays on the link you send. It is super simple and convenient and last season we raised $23,000 together. Remember, referee fees alone for our large organization can run between $30k and $40k for the season, so we need everyone to come together to make this happen.

Instructions:
I set up a Double Good virtual fundraiser! It’s 100% contactless, we keep 50% of the profit and the product ships directly to the buyer.
We’ll each create a Pop-Up Store and sell Double Good popcorn! Prices for Signature Bags (5 cups each) start at $11 and Curated Collections at $31. The popcorn is ultra-premium, delicious, and award-winning!

Our fundraising window begins on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, at 5:00 PM and goes until April 27th, 2025, at 5:00 PM.

Before the fundraiser begins:
1. Download the Double Good app
2. Enter our event code XFQKIC in the app
3. Create your Pop-Up Store

3) Coaching

"A coach will impact more people in one year than the average person will in a lifetime," Billy Graham

Our amazing volunteer coaches are the backbone of The Coach Sarna League. We may have 2,000 kids who want to play, but we need the coaches in order to form the teams and participate. This season, we will once again be teaming up with Firstdown Playbook where coaches can download pre-made plays with coaching points to use for the season. Firstdown will meet virtually with our league for training.

The Coach Sarna League also has developed a pre-set 8-week practice plan for your team(s) to use, or you can make your own practices. We also hold an in-person coach clinic to ensure every coach is in a place to succeed.

We are going to do everything in our power to have the best training for coaches so that everyone, whether you are a first-time coach who is new to football or have coached football for decades will learn and grow under our program. If you or anyone you know are willing to be trained as a head coach or assistant coach, please call/text Coach Ryan Sarna immediately at 707-316-3029.

NOTE: It is important to remember that we are a volunteer-based league, and we rely on families and friends for coaching. In the event that we have more teams than coaches, some teams will be dissolved in order to maintain the integrity of our league. A full refund will be awarded to families in the case of dissolving a team from not having a coach.

4) Scholarships

It is the mission of our league that every kid who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances

If your family qualifies as low-income, our partnership with NFL Flag offers a scholarship for your family by filling out the NFL Flag Individual Participant Grant Form HERE. Once NFL Flag approves your request they will notify you and our league.

A full scholarship covers the registration fee, jersey top, and shorts. It does not cover a non-volunteer fee if you chose not to volunteer in some manner. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis as well as need (i.e. if we needed more 6th grade girls then the first 6th grade girl on the waitlist would have prefernce) and only head coaches and LEVI's Stadium volunteers are guaranteed a scholarship. All other scholarship requests will be on a waitlist until a week before registration closes and we will work through the waitlist based on the amount of LEVI's Stadium Volunteers we for the summer and fall LEVI's Stadium events.

Easiest way to earn a scholarship:

Anyone who is willing to become a head coach (HC) can ask for our Head Coach Scholarship that will pay for the registration and optional additional gear (NFL gloves, NFL sleeves, NFL headband and NFL socks) for your player(s), a $200 value per child. This includes any of your friends or family that you recommend becoming a head coach on behalf of your child's team. This is because some people may not be able to coach, but know someone who would such as an uncle, auntie, friend etc.

Become an Assistant Coach (AC) for a team and you will receive a half-scholarship. Just as the head coach position, if anyone from your reference becomes an assistant coach for your child's team then you can claim that AC Half-Scholarship.

Volunteer for a LEVI's Stadium event (one time per scholarship).

5) Volunteering:

All families will be asked to volunteer with The Coach Sarna League in some capacity OR pay a non-volunteer fee of $40 for the season. One can also join the $5 Monthly Club to waive the fee. The non-volunteer fee is not otherwise waivable without volunteering.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, if your company or school rewards volunteer time or hours, anything you do for our league can be claimed as volunteer time. We have high school students volunteer in concessions and it counts towards their mandatory volunteer hours for school. We also have people whose workplace pays them for volunteer hours and their coaching/concessions time is compensated by their workplace.

Our league solely operates off of volunteers, including coaches. If you are able to help coach, be certain to fill out the coach registration form under the registration tab on our website or during registration. If you know a relative or friend who may be willing to coach, then share our website and direct them to fill out the tab. We will train any and all coaches regardless of experience.

Other ways to volunteer:

LEVI’s Stadium: This is the primary fundraising source of our league and the more committed and regular volunteers we have the more we can do as an organization. These are events where the adults of our league operate concessions stands together at LEVI’s Stadium. Volunteering at these events with family and friends who are 18+ is the best way to financially support our league outside of donating. This is an all-day volunteer opportunity when we do have these events and are a ton of fun.

LEVI’s Stadium Volunteers need all-black shoes, black slacks or slack-like pants, a Coach Sarna League shirt will be given if you do not have a black polo or button up, and fingernails need to be a ¼” or less. Our league uses the GroupMe App for communication.

Ducky Derby Tickets Seller: Take at least 10 Ducky Derby Tickets and sell them to family, friends, and coworkers throughout the season. Ducky Derby is a longstanding annual event at The Vallejo Waterfront Weekend at the beginning of October. Essentially, rubber ducks have a number on the bottom matching the tickets sold. The ducks are dropped into the Mare Island Strait at the event where they are carried by the current in what is called "the race". The first three ducks that reach the finish line win substantial prizes that have ranged from a new car, vacation packages, and cash prizes.

Families who withdraw from March 30th until the season begins can request a 50% refund. No refund will be issued to any family once the season begins.

Remember, all orders will be distributed on Jersey Day on Saturday, April 19th. Any optional gear that you ordered during check-out will also be distributed along with the jersey and shorts during this time.

DISCLAIMER (1): NFL Flag does not refund or return anything ordered in the wrong size. Therefore, if you order the wrong size there are no exchanges and you will need to repurchase the item. We do have some jerseys and shorts in stock and may be able to have an exchange with what we have available.

DISCLAIMER (2): Players who sign up late and are chosen from the waitlist will not receive a jersey. They will only receive shorts and a flag. Waitlist players will need to get an NFL jersey of the team they are assigned to on their own. Waitlist players will need to pay via Venmo once activated from the waitlist.

Equipment:
As noted above, all registrations include a reversible NFL team jersey and NFL Flag Football shorts. All participants will be given a flag to keep for the season with a $10 replacement fee if it is lost. Jerseys and flags will be sent to us and dispersed on Saturday, April 19th.

Gear that you must purchase on your own if you want it (can purchase during check-out which will help fund our league): Mouth guard (now required) and any-type of football or soccer cleats (no metal spiked baseball cleats). NOTE: We strongly recommend that you purchase the optional NFL gear at the checkout of your registration (socks, sleeves, gloves, headband and footballs) as this will not only make your player look way more awesome but will also help fund our league. Purchasing during registration is also the most affordable way as we are able to keep the price down at the registration check-out.
