This Program Description will include the following sections:

1) About Us

3) Coaching
4) Scholarships
5) Volunteering
6) 2024 Spring Season Schedule and Information
7) Adult Flag Football League
8) Refund Policy
9) Contact Information

1) About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) family-oriented league and are dedicated to bringing families together, strengthening relationships, and building new ones, all-the-while teaching players football fundamentals and opening up a safe and competitive environment to play non-contact football. We offer a holistic approach to youth sports that includes mentoring, leadership, nutrition, and mental health.

Our mission is that any child who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances. We have never turned a child away due to financial hardships and our goal is to never do so.

At the 2022 NFL Flag Summit in New Orleans, LA, our league was nominated by NFL Flag as one of the top new leagues in the nation out of approximately 700 other leagues. Again, at the 2023 NFL Flag Summit in Atlanta, GA, we were nominated for League of the Year as well as the Community-Based League of the Year. Ryan Sarna, the CEO and Founder of The Coach Sarna League was also invited as a guest speaker for two different segments at the 2023 Annual NFL Flag Conference in Atlanta, GA.

We are open to the public, so anyone can register for either or BOTH of our leagues regardless of where they live (7 v 7 in Fairfield on Saturdays and/or 5 v 5 in Vallejo on Sundays). We have families from all over Solano County, Napa County, and Contra Costa County, and as far away as Sacramento and San Francisco.

Our divisions, from PreK and up to adults are separated into All-Boys and All-Girls Divisions. Our All-Girls Divisions are currently the largest All-Girls Flag Football Divisions in Northern California with hundreds of participants.

We are currently working with universities from across the nation to get our High School girls recognition and potentially scholarship opportunities for flag football.

Being a community-based league, we stress team bonding events, attendance of our community events, and are introducing Team Talks and a youth mentoring and career training referee program.

2) Quick Points on changes from previous season including cost

We are now in two different locations, on two different days, in two different formats. Players are encouraged to register for both locations and double their playing experience and skill set.

Fairfield - Solano College - Saturdays - 7 v 7 Format (used in High School in Collegiate level) - Organized by school, skill-level, and requests much as possible - Pre-K to Adult Divisions

Vallejo - PAL Fields - Sundays - 5 v 5 Format (used in Olympics and World Games) - Organized by school, skill-level and requests - Pre-k to High School Divisions

We will have Referees for the entire season in all divisions that keep score (3rd grade and up for 7 v 7 keep score. 5th grade and up in 5 v 5 keeps score. All other grades are scrimmage based).

Popcorn Fundraiser from all Players and Teams April 11th-15th

This is to help alleviate the $20k-$30k cost to have referees for all of our games for the whole season at both locations.

We are working with Double Good Popcorn for the fundraiser.

This is an app-based fundraiser so that families do not need to collect cash or deliver orders. Sellers will only need to get family and friends and colleagues the link to purchase on their behalf.

We will have individual prizes for the Top Individual Sellers and then a Team Prize for the top selling team.

Top Individual Sellers:

1st Place - Three Two-Day Disneyland passes
2nd Place - Oculus Meta 3
3rd Place - 2 Tickets to 2024 49ers game
4th-10th Place - Coach Sarna League Merch

Top Selling Team:

  2. Enter our event code in the app: FSAVUG
  3. Create your pop-up store

Team Talk

We are creating a weekly Team Talk initiative that will go out to all families and coaches weekly during the season. Coaches will be assigned a conversation to hold with the players to begin practice each week, while families will have home talking points that will focus on the following:

Leadership
Mental Health
Healthy Weekly Recipe with Video

Referee Training and Certification Program

Our Referee Training Program is for adults and youth (5th grade and Up). This revolutionary mentoring program will not only focus on the rules of the game and officiating techniques, but will also guide trainees in leadership, conflict resolution, physical health, and mental health. The Referee Training Program may also lead to paid opportunities and career opportunities as we aim to have all of our paid officials be certified through our own program.

Season Cost

We will continue to be the most affordable league in the area and offer an early bird special of $90 for the season that will end on Sunday, February 4th and will include registration fee and jersey top (shorts are mandatory and have to be ordered at checkout). We will Increase the registration fee to $98 once the early bird special ends on Monday, February 12th until registration closes on Thursday, March 14th.

Non-Volunteer Fee

We are a volunteer-based organization. All families are expected to contribute to our league and its functionality and will be charged a $40 non-volunteer fee if you choose not to volunteer for anything during the season. However, one can choose to be a $5 club contributor instead of paying the $40 non-volunteer fee.

Download the GroupMe App

Most of our team, coach, and volunteer communications will come through the GroupMe App. This is a free download from your app store and makes communication with your team and coaches easy.
I will be communicating to coaches via GroupMe this season.

3) Coaching

"A coach will impact more people in one year than the average person will in a lifetime," Billy Graham

Our amazing volunteer coaches are the backbone of The Coach Sarna League. We may have 2,000 kids who want to play, but we need the coaches in order to form the teams and participate. This season, we will once again be teaming up with Firstdown Playbook where coaches can download pre-made plays with coaching points to use for the season. Firstdown will meet virtually with our league for training.

The Coach Sarna League will also develop a pre-set 8-week practice plan for your team(s) to use, or you can make your own practices. We also hold two in-person coach training sessions for our own coaches to ensure every coach is in a place to succeed.

We are going to do everything in our power to have the best training for coaches so that everyone, whether you are a first-time coach who is new to football or have coached football for decades will learn and grow under our program. If you or anyone you know are willing to be trained as a head coach or assistant coach, please call/text Coach Ryan Sarna immediately at 707-316-3029.

Also, coaches who coach all day will receive free food at concessions during gameday for you and your family and will also receive TWO Crab Feed Tickets for our 2025 Crab Feed Fundraiser ($180 value). This includes if you were an all-day assistant coach or head coach or a mix of the two.

NOTE: It is important to remember that we are a volunteer-based league, and we rely on families and friends for coaching. In the event that we have more teams than coaches, some teams will be dissolved in order to maintain the integrity of our league. A full refund will be awarded to families in the case of dissolving a team from not having a coach.

4) Scholarships

It is the mission of our league that every kid who wants to play, will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances

A full scholarship covers the registration fee, jersey top, and shorts. It does not cover a non-volunteer fee if you chose not to volunteer in some manner.

However, we have experienced families receiving a scholarship and never showing up to the season. This results in the loss of hard-earned scholarship funds, not to mention roster spots. The NFL Flag does not allow us to return jerseys, it is an unused expense. Therefore, any family wishing to receive a scholarship needs to email Coach Sarna at [email protected] and both request a scholarship(s) and guarantee that you and your player(s) have discussed the importance of following through with your commitment and are fully committed to playing for the duration of the season. If you or your child are not sure of their ability to attend and finish the season, please consider our league at another time when you are fully prepared to commit to playing on a scholarship.

Easiest way to earn a scholarship:

Anyone who is willing to become a head coach (HC) can ask for our Head Coach Scholarship that will pay for the registration and optional additional gear (NFL gloves, NFL sleeves, NFL headband and NFL socks) for your player(s), a $180 value per child. This includes any of your friends or family that you recommend becoming a head coach on behalf of your child's team. This is because some people may not be able to coach, but know someone who would such as an uncle, auntie, friend etc.

Become an Assistant Coach (AC) for a team and you will receive a half-scholarship. Just as the head coach position, if anyone from your reference becomes an assistant coach for your child's team then you can claim that AC Half-Scholarship.

If you cannot coach or provide a coach, please contact Coach Sarna immediately by email with "Scholarship" in the heading at [email protected]. We maintain our promise that every child who wants to play will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances.

5) Volunteering:

All families will be asked to volunteer with The Coach Sarna League in some capacity OR pay a non-volunteer fee of $40 for the season. One can also join the $5 Monthly Club to waive the fee. The non-volunteer fee is not otherwise waivable without volunteering.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, if your company or school rewards volunteer time or hours, anything you do for our league can be claimed as volunteer time. We have high school students volunteer in concessions and it counts towards their mandatory volunteer hours for school. We also have people whose workplace pays them for volunteer hours and their coaching/concessions time is compensated by their workplace.

Our league solely operates off of volunteers, including coaches. If you are able to help coach, be certain to fill out the coach registration form under the registration tab on our website or during registration. If you know a relative or friend who may be willing to coach, then share our website and direct them to fill out the tab. We will train any and all coaches regardless of experience.

Other ways to volunteer:

Garbage Crew: Walk the grounds of Solano College and pick up all trash that can be found.

LEVI’s Stadium: This is the primary fundraising source of our league and the more committed and regular volunteers we have the more we can do as an organization. These are events where the adults of our league operate concessions stands together at LEVI’s Stadium. Volunteering at these events with family and friends who are 18+ is the best way to financially support our league outside of donating. This is an all-day volunteer opportunity when we do have these events and are a ton of fun.

LEVI’s Stadium Volunteers need all-black shoes, black slack or slack-like pants, a Coach Sarna League shirt will be given if you do not have a black polo or button up, and fingernails need to be a ¼” or less. Our league uses the GroupMe App for communication.

Set-Up or Tear-Down Crew: Setting up the fields and tearing down the fields every week can be a daunting task for one or two people. Therefore, we will be looking for volunteers to arrive early (7 am) to set-up the fields and concessions stand. We will also need some from the later divisions to stay after we are finished (usually around 5pm) to pack everything up in an organized manner.

$5 Club: Field costs, maintenance, insurance, referees, and gasoline alone cost our league tens of thousands of dollars per season as of right now. To date, our league has given over $90,000 in scholarships to families who were not in position to pay. We are a high-quality, yet low-cost league and rely on our volunteers, concessions, and donors to make The Coach Sarna League happen. In response, we are asking all of our families to join our $5 Club, which simply means that you will commit to setting up a monthly donation of $5 or more through PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account). It may not seem like much as it is only the cost of a Starbucks per month, but if enough parents do it, we will be able to cover many expenses and scholarships. To participate in our $5 Club, please click HERE.

6) 2024 Spring Season Schedule:

Our 2024 Spring 7 v 7 Season will begin on Saturday, March 30th with our Jersey Distribution and Fundraiser, and end on Saturday, June 8th with The Coach Sarna League Championship Tournament.

Important Dates:

Sunday, March 10th - All-Girls Females in Flag Clinic (Open to public and free of charge)
Monday, March 18th - Registration Closes
April 1st - April 5th - Volunteer Trip to the Door of Faith Orphanage in Baja, Mexico (limited to 70 people)
Saturday, April 6th - Jersey Distribution and Fundraiser Day
Sunday, April 7th - Coach Training Clinic at Solano College Football Stadium in Fairfield
Saturday, April 13th - Team Practices
Saturday, April 20th - Opening Day Weekend (first games)
Saturday, May 11th - No Activities for Mother’s Day
Saturday, May 25th - No Activities for Memorial Day
Saturday, June 1st - Regular Season Ends and Final Week for Pre-K to 2nd Grade
Saturday, June 8th - The Coach Sarna League Championship Tournament

The game schedule will be subject to change, but most likely Pre-k to 4th grade divisions will run from 8:30 am -10:30 am. 5th and 6th grade All-Boys Divisions will run from 10:45 am - 12:45 pm. 7th and 8th grade All-Boys Divisions will run from 12:55 pm - 2:55 pm. All-Girls Divisions will run from 3pm - 5pm. Adults Divisions 5:15pm - 7:15pm

All games will be on Saturdays for the Fairfield 7 v 7 League and played at the Solano College Football Stadium: 4000 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield, CA.

It is possible that we play one of the weeks at a professional stadium, such as LEVI’s Stadium or the Oakland Coliseum. However, this has yet to be determined.

7) Adult Flag Football League

Our Inaugural Adult Flag Football League will take place at the end of the playing day which will be set at the end of registration once we know how many teams we have. For example, if the last youth division ends at 5pm, the adult division will begin at 5:15pm.

Adult Teams will be there for a total of two-hours, with 1 hour and 15 minutes for practice and 45 minutes for a game (No weekday practices).

Rather than having set coaches, our Adult Division will have experienced football players (Team Leads) on each team who will coordinate the 1-hour team practice and decide how plays are called. These Team Leads can attend our coaching clinics. We will have premade playbooks and practice schedules that teams can use OR they can make their own.

The Adult Division will be separated by gender and age brackets as much as possible, for example, 18–29-year-old Men may be one division and 30's and Up Women may be another division. Of course, this depends on how many adults register from each age bracket and gender.

Scholarships are available for the adult division. This is only for adults who volunteer coach a youth team. An Assistant Coach will receive 25% off for each team they assist. Head Coaches will receive 50% off for each team they coach (some coaches coach 3-4 teams per season).

There will be referees for the Adult Division.

Adult Division can bring in their own teams. Please send Coach Sarna an email of your roster if you had your own team.

8) Refund Policy

The NFL Flag organization does not allow us to return jerseys or other items once delivered. Therefore, families have until March 13th to withdraw for a full refund. Families who withdraw from March 18th until the season begins in April can request a 50% refund. No refund will be issued to any family once the season begins.

Remember, all orders will be distributed on Jersey Day on Saturday, April 6th. Any optional gear that you ordered during check-out will also be distributed along with the jersey and shorts during this time.

DISCLAIMER (1): NFL Flag does not refund or return anything ordered in the wrong size. Therefore, if you order the wrong size there are no exchanges and you will need to repurchase the item. We do have some jerseys and shorts in stock and may be able to have an exchange with what we have available.

DISCLAIMER (2): No one is guaranteed to be partnered with a friend or coach request. It can be a great thing for the players to learn to work with different coaches and make new friends each season.

Equipment:
As noted above, all registrations include a reversible NFL team jersey and Coach Sarna League Flag Football shorts. All participants will be given a flag to keep for the season with a $10 replacement fee if it is lost. Jerseys and flags will be sent to us and dispersed on Saturday, April 6th.

Gear that you must purchase on your own if you want it (can purchase during check-out which will help fund our league): Mouth guard (now required) and any-type of football or soccer cleats (no metal spiked baseball cleats). NOTE: We strongly recommend that you purchase the optional NFL gear at the checkout of your registration (socks, sleeves, gloves, headband and footballs) as this will not only make your player look way more awesome but will also help fund our league. Purchasing during registration is also the most affordable way as we are able to keep the price down at the registration check-out.

The Referee Training Program may also lead to paid opportunities and career opportunities as we aim to have all of our paid officials be certified through our own program.

Season Cost

We will continue to be the most affordable league in the area and offer an early bird special of $90 for the season that will end on Sunday, February 4th and will include registration fee and jersey top (shorts are mandatory and have to be ordered at checkout). We will Increase the registration fee to $98 once the early bird special ends until registration closes on Monday, March 18th.

If you or your child are not sure of their ability to attend and finish the season, please consider our league at another time when you are fully prepared to commit to playing on a scholarship.

Ways to receive a scholarship:

Concessions Stand: We need people to help operate the concessions stand every division of every week. This helps us fund the league and keep our costs low so everyone can play. You can volunteer for your child's playing time or another time when they are not playing. You can do one division or all day, it is up to you. For opportunities with the 2024 Spring Concessions Stands, text Nina Sarna at 949-910-1364. Or be certain to respond to Nina’s emails and texts.

All-Girls Divisions will run from 3pm - 5pm.

All games will be on Sundays for the Vallejo 5 v 5 League and played at the PAL Fields: 301 Wallace Avenue, Vallejo, CA.

Adult Divisions can bring in their own teams if they would like. Please email Coach Sarna your roster if you are bringing in your own team.

8) Refund Policy

The NFL Flag organization does not allow us to return jerseys or other items once delivered. Therefore, families have until March 18th to withdraw for a full refund. Families who withdraw from March 10th until the season begins in April can request a 50% refund. No refund will be issued to any family once the season begins.

Remember, all orders will be distributed on Draft Day and Jersey Day on Saturday, March 30th.

DISCLAIMER (2): No one is guaranteed to be partnered with a friend or coach request, although we do our best to honor requests, we also need to balance skill-level and experience to honor fair competition.
