2023 Fall NFL Flag Football Season

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION IN FULL BEFORE PROCEEDING EVEN IF YOU HAVE BEEN WITH US BEFORE AS WE HAVE IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE 2023 FALL SEASON (para la versión en español haga clic aquí)

There will be a price increase in fees this season due to the NFL Flag Jersey price increasing AND we are going to now include NFL Flag Shorts in all orders.

About Us

We are a 501c3 family-oriented league and are dedicated to bringing families together, strengthening relationships, and building new ones, all-the-while teaching players football fundamentals and opening up a safe and competitive environment to play non-contact football.

In 2022 we were nominated by the NFL Flag as one of the top new leagues in the nation out of approximately 700 other leagues. In 2023, we are currently up for the League of the Year Award as well as the Community-Based League of the Year Award which will be given out in Atlanta, GA this July. The Coach Sarna League has also been asked to be a guest speaker at the 2023 Annual NFL Flag Conference in Atlanta, GA to discuss the rapid success of our league.

Our mission is that anyone who wants to play ball, will indeed play whether they can afford it or not. We have never turned a child away due to financial hardships and our goal is to never do so.

We are open to the public, so anyone from anywhere can register. We have players from Vallejo, Benicia, Sacramento, Sonoma, and San Francisco among other Northern California cities. However, we organize by school as much as possible so kids from the same schools and in the same grades are on the same teams unless there is a special request.

Our Pre-k to 4th grade divisions are co-ed. Our 5th grade and higher divisions are separated by gender and are competitive. Our All-Girls Divisions are currently the largest All-Girls Flag Football Divisions in Northern California. This season, our All-Boys Division will go as high as 8th-Grade, while our All-Girls Divisions will stretch into High School. We will begin taking high school boys again in the Spring of 2024.

We are currently working on a partnership with a local University who is creating their first collegiate All-Girls Flag Football Program, which will give girls coming through The Coach Sarna League a first look at scholarship opportunities to play flag football at the collegiate level!

Coaching

"A coach will impact more people in one year than the average person will in a lifetime," Billy Graham

Our amazing volunteer coaches are the backbone of The Coach Sarna League. We may have 1,000 kids who want to play, but we need the coaches in order to form the teams and play. This season, we will once again be teaming up with the Coach D Organization in Denver, CO who will virtually meet with all of our coaches 1-on-1 for playbook review, playbook development, and develop an 8-week practice plan for your team(s). We also hold 2 to 3 in-person coach training sessions for our own coaches and- will ensure every coach is in a place to succeed.

We are going to do everything in our power to have the best training for coaches so that everyone, whether you are a first-time coach who is new to football or have coached football for decades will learn and grow under our program. If you or anyone you know are willing to be trained as a head coach or assistant coach on a team of 8 kids at any level, please call/text Coach Sarna immediately at 707-316-3029.

Also, coaches who coach all day will receive free food at concessions during gameday for you and your family and will also receive TWO Crab Feed Tickets for our 2024 Crab Feed Fundraiser ($180 value). This includes if you were an all-day assistant coach or head coach or a mix of the two.

NOTE: It is important to remember that we are a volunteer-based league, and we rely on families and friends for coaching. In the event that we have more teams than coaches, some teams will be dissolved in order to maintain the integrity of our league.

SCHOLARSHIPS

There are three ways to receive a scholarship.

Anyone who is willing to become a head coach (HC) can ask for our Head Coach Scholarship that will pay for the registration and optional additional gear (NFL gloves, NFL sleeves, and NFL socks) for your player(s), a $165 value per child. This includes any of your friends or family that you recommend becoming a head coach on behalf of your child's team. This is because some people may not be able to coach, but know someone who would such as an uncle, auntie, friend etc.

The second way to receive a scholarship is to become an Assistant Coach (AC) for a team and you will receive a half-scholarship. Just as the head coach position, if anyone from your reference becomes an assistant coach for your child's team then you can claim that AC Half-Scholarship.

The third way is to commit to volunteering at one of our professional fundraising days where we operate concessions stands as a team at LEVI's Stadium and you will receive a full scholarship. Events that we volunteer to operate concessions stands as an adult group include: all 49ers home games, concerts, and soccer games. You can find an event list for LEVI's Stadium by clicking HERE and sending me an email with the event you want to volunteer, who is volunteering with you, and your names, emails, and numbers. You will receive a scholarship either per event you volunteer OR per person you bring with you to one event. For example, if you have three children who need a scholarship, you can commit to volunteering at three events OR you can bring two people with you to one event.

Of course, anyone can volunteer with us at our LEVI's Stadium events, even if you do not want a scholarship and just want to support our league. It is imperative that if you commit to volunteering that you show up on time. Our relationship with LEVI's Stadium will depend on all volunteers being present, on-time, and ready to serve our community through volunteerism. All volunteers will receive a Coach Sarna League T-Shirt. You must have black pants, black non-slip shoes (like tennis shoes etc.), and trimmed nails (no more than a 1/4" from tip of finger). A black 49ers ball hat or beanie is permissible.

Of course, we understand that there are special circumstances that may prevent a family from fulfilling one of the three options. In that case, please call Coach Sarna to discuss at 707-316-3029. We maintain our promise that every child who wants to play will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances.

Volunteering:

All families will be asked to volunteer with The Coach Sarna League in some capacity OR pay a non-volunteer fee of $40 for the season. If you chose to volunteer and not pay the non-volunteer fee, it is absolutely imperative that you sign-up immediately to volunteer. If you do not volunteer, and avoided the Non-Volunteer Fee, your family will not be able to participate in the league unless there is a written explanation of your challenging circumstances. The non-volunteer fee is not waivable even if under a scholarship.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, if your company or school gives paid volunteer time or hours, anything you do for our league can be claimed as volunteer time. We have high school students volunteer in concessions and it counts towards their mandatory volunteer hours for school. We also have people whose workplace pays them for volunteer hours and their coaching/concessions time is compensated by their workplace.

Our league solely operates off of volunteers, including coaches and referees. There is currently no paid staff. If you are able to help coach, be certain to fill out the coach registration form under the registration tab on our website or during registration. If you know a relative or friend who may be willing to coach, then share our website and direct them to fill out the tab. We will train any and all coaches regardless of experience.

Other ways to volunteer:

Concessions Stand: We need people to help operate the concessions stand every division of every week. This helps us fund the league and keep our costs low so everyone can play. You can volunteer for your child's playing time or another time when they are not playing. You can do one division or all day, it is up to you. For opportunities with the 2023 Fall Concessions Stands, please click HERE or text Nina Sarna at 949-910-1364.

Professional Fundraiser Days: These are events where the adults of our league operate concessions stands together at LEVI’s Stadium. Volunteering at these events with family and friends who are 18+ is the best way to financially support our league outside of donating.

Set-Up or Tear-Down Crew: Setting up the fields and tearing down the fields every week can be a daunting task for one or two people. Therefore, we will be looking for volunteers to arrive early (7:30 am) to set-up the fields and clinics. We will also need some from the later divisions to stay after we are finished (usually around 5pm) to pack everything up in an organized manner.

Donate Food every week for concessions stand. (Some families donate fruit cups, chamoy, tamales, Gatorade, Powerade, etc.).

$5 Club: Field costs, maintenance, insurance, and gasoline alone cost our league tens of thousands of dollars per year as of right now. To date, our league has given approximately $60,000 in scholarships to families who were not in position to pay. We are a high-quality, yet low-cost league and rely on our volunteers, concessions, and donors to make The Coach Sarna League happen. In response, we are asking all of our families to join our $5 Club, which simply means that you will commit to setting up a monthly donation of $5 or more through PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account). It may not seem like much as it is only the cost of a Starbucks per month, but if enough parents do it, we will be able to cover many expenses and scholarships. To participate in our $5 Club, please click HERE.

2023 Fall Season Schedule:

Our 2023 Fall Season will begin on Sunday, October 8th with a Skill Building Clinic at The Vallejo Waterfront Weekend Festival and end on Saturday, December 2nd (November 18th for Pre-k to 3rd grade) with a break for the Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 25th).

We will have a Jersey Distribution Day and Coffee Fundraiser on Saturday, October 7th at the Vallejo Waterfront Weekend Festival from 9am to 12pm.

Saturday, September 30th will be our pre-season coach training clinic with live drills from 2pm-8pm (dinner provided), and again on Friday, November 3rd for a mid-season training/review from 5:30-8:30, and again on Friday, November 17th for our Celebration of Coaches Event in Benicia from 5:30-8:30.

We will have divisions from Pre-K through High School. Pre-K to 4th will be co-ed and scrimmage based. All-Girls Divisions will be from 5th grade through High School. All-Boys Divisions will be 5th-8th Grade. Advanced players can choose to play up a grade (4th play in 5th Division etc.)

The game schedule will be subject to change, but most likely Pre-k to 4th grade divisions will run from 8:30-10:30. 5th and 6th grade All-Boys Divisions will run from 10:45 am - 12:45 pm. 7th and 8th grade All-Boys Divisions will run from 12:55pm - 2:55pm. All-Girls Divisions will run from 3pm - 5 pm.

All games will be on Saturdays.

Our locations are TBD for the games on 10/14, 10/21, and 10/28. However, all November - December games will be at the Vallejo PAL Fields (301 Wallace Avenue). We will most likely hold the 10/14 game at Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park (the original stadium of the 49ers), and at the at the Cal Maritime fields OR Mare Island football field for 10/21 and 10/28 games.

All orders come with an NFL Flag Football jersey and NFL Flag shorts that will be picked up on Jersey Hand-Out Day on Saturday, October 7th at the Vallejo Waterfront Weekend Festival from 9am-12pm. Any optional gear that you ordered during check out will also be distributed on Jersey Hand-Out Day along with the jersey and shorts.

DISCLAIMER: NFL Flag jerseys run small. If you order an incorrect size, whether on accident or not, and need a replacement jersey, you will need to pay a mandatory $35 replacement fee and wait several weeks for the new jersey size to come in, absolutely no exceptions will be given. I recommend ordering one-size up from their current shirt size and staying with it to avoid the mandatory fee and delay.

Equipment:
As noted above, all registrations include a reversible NFL team jersey and NFL Flag shorts. We suggest ordering a size higher than what you think your child wears and jerseys and shorts run small. Jerseys will be sent to us and dispersed on Saturday, October 7th.

Gear that you must purchase on your own (can purchase during check-out which will help fund our league): Mouth guard (optional but recommended) and any-type of football or soccer cleats (no metal spiked baseball cleats). NOTE: We strongly recommend that you purchase the optional NFL gear at the checkout of your registration (socks, sleeves, gloves, and footballs) as this will not only make your player look way more awesome but will also help fund our league. Purchasing during registration is also the most affordable as we are able to keep the price down at the registration check-out.

Our Commitment:
The Coach Sarna League is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is our promise that every child who wants to play ball will play regardless of financial resources. If there is a hardship and you need a scholarship, please contact the league prior to paying for registration.

2024 Adult Flag Football Spring League

2024 Adult Flag Football League

Our adult non-contact flag football league will be a 5-on-5 flag football league for ages 18 and up. We intend on having divisions separated by gender and age group, meaning we will have Men's Divisions and Women's Divisions. Both the Men's and Women's Divisions will feature divisions grouped in the ages of: 18-29, 30's and Up, 40's and Up, and 50's and Up.

We are open to the public and anyone can join regardless of where their city is located (our current youth league has kids traveling from San Ramon, San Francisco, Sacramento, etc. to Vallejo where we mostly play). We will have divisions that will be very competitive, and others that will be a great way to build community and friendships while keeping healthy and active.

All games will be played on painted flag football fields in Vallejo on Sundays from April 14th until June 9th, with the exception of Mother's Day weekend and Memorial Day Weekend. The Vallejo PAL Fields on Wallace Avenue is where we will play. Sunday, June 9th will be our championship tournament where each division will compete amongst the teams of their division in a playoff tournament where the winners will receive a championship ring.

Each Sunday, teams will compete in two games, with each game consisting of two 20-minute halves and a 5-minute half-time with a 10-minute break in between the two games. Our 5-on-5 system is in-line with traditional NFL Flag Football as well as the Olympic version which will launch at the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles.

Division times will be set for the season once registration closes in the beginning of March. Once they are set, they will not change. For example, Men's 30's and Up and Women's 30 and Up may be set from 8:30am - 10:30am for the season. We are setting our limit to 500 adults for the season, so division times could be anywhere from 8:30am - 5pm.

Teams will be comprised of 8 players so that players can play both offense and defense. This is a non-contact league, so there will be no tackling, trucking, blocking, or WR jamming allowed.

Registration includes: a reversable jersey with a number and your last name, reversable shorts, socks, gloves, a flag belt with two flags, and a play calling wristband. All of these items are customized with The Coach Sarna League signature logo and are mandatory uniform attire for games.

Teams will also be given access to our FirstDown Playbook account where you can choose from over 1000 plays to print out and insert into your teams play calling wristband. Each team will have a designated team captain who will organize team practices and plays. Team captains will also be given a set of cones and 1 practice ball.

Each team is allowed a max of 2-hours of practice a week. This can come as two one-hour practices OR even one two-hour practice. Some teams may not choose to practice at all, it is up to your team to decide what is best for you.

We are a family-oriented league and will have a robust concessions stand with family-friendly music playing on gamedays so we can foster a community-oriented environment.

The cost of registration per adult player is $250. However, we will offer anyone and everyone scholarship opportunities to have your registration paid in-full or partially as described in the scholarship section below.

In 2023, we were nominated for League of the Year Award as well as the Community-Based League of the Year Award during the annual NFL Flag Football summit in Atlanta, GA. The Coach Sarna League was also a guest speaker at the 2023 Annual NFL Flag Conference in Atlanta, GA to discuss the rapid success of our league and other topics such as coach training.

Our league mission is that anyone who wants to play ball, will indeed play whether they can afford it or not. We have never turned a child away due to financial hardships and our goal is to never do so.

We are open to the public, so anyone from anywhere can register. Our youth league (ages 4 to 17) has players from Vallejo, Benicia, Sacramento, Sonoma, and San Francisco among other Northern California cities. However, we organize by school as much as possible so kids from the same schools and in the same grades are on the same teams unless there is a special request.

SCHOLARSHIPS

There are FOUR ways to receive a scholarship for the $250 registration fee. (NOTE: we are a 501c3 non-profit and any volunteer hours with us can be used on resumes, applications, and to fulfill any needed volunteer time).

The first and most helpful way is to become a Head Coach for one or more of our youth teams with opportunities beginning with our Fall 2023 season (October - December Saturday games). All coaches are trained by us and given access to practice schedules and plays that you are able to use. This option will cover half of your registration per team you coach. One could volunteer as a Head Coach in the Fall youth season and have their scholarship applied to your Spring adult season. You could also refer a coach, and if they become a head coach for the whole season, we will apply the scholarship to your spring registration in full.

The second way to receive a scholarship is to become an Assistant Coach (AC) for a team and you will receive a 25% off registration per team that you are an assistant coach with (the way our youth season is set up you could assistant coach on up to 4 teams at once as they have different playing times on Saturdays). You can also refer an assistant coach and have 25% off registration applied per team they assist with.

The third way is to become a weekly Official/Referee for the 2023 Fall Season. You will receive 25% off registration per division time-frame that you referee (we have four division time frames between 8:30am and 5pm so all-day referees for the 8-week season will have their registrations paid in full). At the end of the 8-week fall season, we will apply the scholarship to your registration per your division time frame.

The fourth way is to commit to volunteering at TWO of our professional fundraising days where we operate concessions stands as a team at LEVI's Stadium and you will receive a full scholarship. For example, you can commit to volunteering at two events OR you can bring two people with you to one event for a full scholarship.

Of course, anyone 18 years of age or older can volunteer with us at our LEVI's Stadium events, even if you do not want a scholarship and just want to support our league. Of course, we understand that there are special circumstances that may prevent a family from fulfilling one of the three options. In that case, please call Coach Sarna to discuss at 707-316-3029. We maintain our promise that every child who wants to play will indeed play regardless of their financial circumstances.

All games will be on Sundays.

We play at the Vallejo PAL Fields: 301 Wallace Avenue, Vallejo, CA. Although we usually play one week at a professional stadium each season (i.e. Levi's or Oakland Coliseum)

Mexico Trip 2024 (April 1st-6th)

(Version en espanol a continuacion)

The Coach Sarna League is proud to partner with the Door of Faith Orphanage (DOFO) in Baja, Mexico every spring break.

DOFO is one of the largest orphanages in Mexico with approximately 130 children under their care from infants to young adults. This is a fun and unforgettable opportunity to volunteer for the greater good and to experience life outside of our comfort zones.

We will be traveling from Benicia to Baja via 12-passengar rental vans on the morning of April 1st and returning on the afternoon of April 6th.

We intend to limit our 2024 trip to 70 volunteers. Registration is first-come, first-serve.

During our trip, the families, athletes, and friends of our league will volunteer at the orphanage in various capacities, such as construction (painting, taping, cement, laying gravel), cooking, cleaning, landscaping, playing with the children (the most needed assignment), and even putting on a flag football clinic for the children of DOFO where we also donate jerseys, footballs, and flags to the orphanage.

This is an amazing opportunity for our student-athletes to give back to the world and learn to love others.

This year, we are working on partnering with two international football players from Mexico and intend on holding an All-Girls Flag Football game with our girls and other girls local to Baja, Mexico.

The cost of registration for the event is $300 per person. True to the spirit of our league and our league mission, we have scholarships available for anyone who wishes to attend and finds the price too high for them. The cost includes travel, food during our time in Mexico, and your stay at the Casas.

Volunteer opportunities to pay for your spot(s) include coming with us to LEVI Stadium events. It would take volunteering at two events per person to receive a scholarship. This means for 1 scholarship you could come to two separate 49er games OR bring two people with you to one game. There is no limit to the number of scholarships you can volunteer for. For example, we have a family of four attending, to receive full scholarships for the whole family they will be coming to volunteer at eight 49er games and will not have to pay anything for the trip for four people (although they could have just brought 8 people to one game and that would have covered it).

This is a family-centered event, while solo adults are welcome to attend, all youth must be accompanied by an adult guardian to attend the trip.

LOGISTICS

Monday and Saturday will be travel days and will be the only time we are each responsible for our own meals and snacks. On Monday we will also make a stop in Old Town San Diego for a couple of hours for dinner. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday will be volunteer days. Thursday will be a beach day where we will travel to a nearby beach for family fun in the sun! Beach day lunch (Thursday) is also a meal where each volunteer will be responsible for themselves as there will be dozens of vendors to choose from.

At the orphanage, we will be staying in beautiful dorms they call "Casas" which have around 20 bunks each. We intend on keeping families together as much as possible. There are several Casas, all of them next to each other.

There are showers and restrooms in our dormitory area.

The evenings of Tuesday - Friday will end with a bonfire that will include s'mores, music, and games.

Baja, CA takes American currency. Rarely will a store or shop take debit cards, so you will need American dollars in cash for your Thursday lunch AND if you intend on getting any souvenirs or snacks in Mexico.

You MUST have a valid passport to attend the trip. Since we will be driving across the border, you could use either a passport book or a passport card. Passports can be purchased at various USPS locations.

We will not set an age limit on who can come. If you bring a young child, they will be able to play with the children of DOFO. It is mandatory that all youth travel with a designated guardian.

Due to limited space in the vans, all volunteers are not to bring more than one bag. We prefer them to be a smaller to medium bag, like a duffle bag. You will need your own towel, toiletries, pillow, and sleeping bag.

This is our 2nd annual trip and everyone who went the first time is returning for the 2nd. It was a great and fun experience and a VERY safe environment (I have no trouble taking my own children). You can visit our various social media pages and scroll down to April of 2023 to see pictures and videos from our 2023 trip.

"A coach will impact more people in a year than the average person will in a lifetime,Billy Graham

Baja, CA acepta moneda estadounidense.
